Disable comments
Turns comments off across the whole site and removes the comment interface from wp-admin, without deleting anything.
What it does
Closes comments and clears the interface
Disable comments is a Vectro maintenance feature that closes comments site-wide, hides existing comments, removes the comment-reply script, and removes the Comments menu and admin bar item without deleting any existing comments.
One toggle does four things. It closes comments and pingbacks on every post, new and existing. It hides existing comments on the front end. It removes comment-reply.js from your pages. And it removes the Comments menu item from wp-admin and the comments item from the admin bar.
Existing comments are not deleted. They stay in the database exactly as they were, so nothing is lost and turning the feature back off restores everything.
The result is a WordPress install that behaves as though comments were never part of it, which is what most business and brochure sites actually want.
The Maintenance module is off by default on a new install. Switch it on from the Vectro dashboard before this feature can run.
Why it matters
An unused comment form is pure spam surface
Comment spam is automated and indiscriminate. A form that nobody uses still receives submissions continuously, each one costing a database write and a moderation queue entry, and each one a small opportunity for a link injection attempt against a site that is not watching.
There is a smaller performance benefit too – comment-reply.js stops loading on every single page. But the real gain is removing an entire input surface that was never serving you, and clearing the admin clutter that comes with it.
How to use it
One toggle, one check
Technical detail
The four changes it makes
Vectro filters comments_open and pings_open to closed for every post, returns an empty comment list when a theme displays comments, dequeues and deregisters the comment-reply script, and removes the Comments menu item and the admin bar comments item. Existing rows in wp_comments are untouched.
Because this is applied through filters rather than by rewriting settings, deactivating Vectro restores the previous behaviour immediately and your original discussion settings are still intact underneath.

Runs alongside everything
No conflicts detected. Vectro runs this feature regardless of other plugins active.
Questions
Frequently asked
What does disabling comments in Vectro do?
Disabling comments closes comments site-wide, hides existing comments on the front end, removes the comment-reply script from your pages, and removes the Comments menu and admin bar item in wp-admin. Existing comments are not deleted and remain in the database.
Does Vectro disable comments work with other comment plugins?
Vectro runs this feature regardless of other plugins active, because no conflicts are detected for it. If you use a third-party commenting system such as a hosted service, disabling comments in Vectro removes the native WordPress form but not that external embed.
How do I disable comments in WordPress with Vectro?
Switch on the Maintenance module under Vectro > Dashboard, then go to Vectro > Maintenance, toggle Disable Comments Globally on and clear your page cache. Check a post logged out afterwards to confirm the comment form no longer appears.
Is disabling comments in Vectro free or Pro?
Yes, Disabling comments is free. It is included in the free Vectro plugin on WordPress.org with no account required.
Will disabling comments delete my existing WordPress comments?
No – existing comments stay in the wp_comments table exactly as they were and nothing is deleted. Turning the feature back off restores both the comment forms and the display of existing comments.
