Disable emojis
Removes the WordPress emoji detection script and its inline styles, saving around 10KB on every page load.
What it does
Removes a compatibility layer you no longer need
Disable emojis is a Vectro performance feature that removes the WordPress emoji detection script and its inline CSS from every page, saving around 10KB per page load without affecting native emoji rendering.
WordPress loads a script called wp-emoji-release.min.js on every page. Its job is to detect whether the visitor’s browser can render emoji natively and, if not, swap them for images. It also injects a block of inline CSS to style those replacements.
That script was genuinely useful when it was introduced. Browsers and operating systems have supported emoji natively for years now, so on the overwhelming majority of visits it downloads, executes, finds nothing to do, and finishes.
This feature removes the script and the inline styles. Emoji in your content still display, because they are rendered by the operating system rather than by WordPress.
Why it matters
It is a request and a parse on every single page
Ten kilobytes is not much on its own. What makes it worth removing is that it is unconditional: every page, every visitor, every time, for a fallback that almost nobody needs any more. It is an HTTP request, a parse, and an execution that produces no visible result.
Removing it is one of the safest performance wins available, because the failure mode is so mild. In the rare case that a visitor is on a browser old enough to lack native emoji support, they see the character as a box rather than an image. Nothing breaks.

Technical detail
What is dequeued
Vectro removes the emoji detection script from both the front end and the admin, removes the inline emoji styles from the head, and removes the TinyMCE emoji plugin filter so the editor does not reintroduce it.
It also removes the DNS prefetch hint WordPress adds for the emoji CDN, which is a small extra saving in the head of every page.

Vectro detects these and steps aside
You can override any automatic deferral from the Compatibility panel in Vectro’s dashboard if you would rather Vectro handle it.
Questions
Frequently asked
What does disabling WordPress emojis do?
Disabling emojis removes the wp-emoji-release.min.js script and its inline CSS from every page, saving around 10KB per page load. Emoji in your content still display normally because modern operating systems render them natively.
Does Vectro disable emojis work with Perfmatters?
No – if Perfmatters is active, Vectro detects it and disables its own emoji removal automatically. Perfmatters handles it instead, so the script is never dequeued twice.
How do I disable emojis in WordPress with Vectro?
Go to Vectro > Performance in wp-admin, toggle Disable Emojis on, then clear your page cache. Check your page source for wp-emoji afterwards to confirm the script is gone.
Is disabling emojis in Vectro free or Pro?
Yes, Disabling emojis is free. It is included in the free Vectro plugin on WordPress.org with no account required.
Will disabling emojis stop emoji showing on my site?
No – emoji characters in your posts and pages still display, because they are rendered by the visitor’s operating system rather than by WordPress. Only the WordPress detection and image-replacement layer is removed.
